Benefits of Practicing Pilates
and Gyrotonic®

What We Offer

PILATES

pilatesThere are over 500 exercises that incorporate six principles: breath, centering, concentration, control, precision, and flow. In the beginning, exercises are broken down into more isolated movements called‚ fundamentals. The goal of these smaller exercises is to help create awareness and control in each area of the body. As clients progress, they begin to integrate these fundamentals into more complex exercises. >>read more

The focus of Pilates is on quality of movement, rather than quantity so that no muscle group is overworked or neglected and the body is worked as a whole. The remarkable design of the equipment both challenges and supports the body as it learns to move more efficiently, powerfully, and fluidly. Because sessions are almost never exactly the same, the mind and body are continuously challenged.

Gyrotonic®

gyrotonicThe Gyrotonic® Expansion System embraces some of the movement principles found in yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi. The circular, spiraling motions allow the user to increase spinal flexibility, stretch and strengthen muscles, decompress joints and strengthen ligaments and connective tissues throughout the body. >>read more

The primary piece of equipment, the Gyrotonic® Pulley Tower, can be adjusted to meet the needs of people with varying body types and fitness levels. The exercises allow complete freedom of movement without jarring or stressing the joints. As in Pilates, the equipment is designed to challenge and support the body.

Momentum is a nationally renowned teacher training facility with hundreds of trainees in 30 states and foreign countries including Canada, Australia, England, and Germany. Momentum Studio certifications are designed to meet and maintain the highest industry standards with vision for the future. Momentum is recognized by the Pilates Method Alliance as a Comprehensive Educational Facility.

Upon completion of our training courses, trainees will be skilled in both the exercise system itself and more importantly, the philosophical aspects of Pilates. Our focus lies primarily in the basic principles developed by Joseph Pilates, the original form and the biomechanics of movement, as well as the common threads between the movements.

From this foundation, the trainee will be capable of creating his or her own variety of exercises geared for the specific needs of individual clients, all based in the Pilates methodology. Coupled with protocols from Joseph Pilates' original exercises, modification and variations, trainees learn to teach with much more than a generic repertoire. This program prepares the trainee to actually go to work with real people and real situations.

The Pilates Studio Certification course consists of daily exercise breakdown, practical teaching exercises and participation in Pilates classes. In addition to experiencing and learning to teach the Pilates repertoire, the student will learn the applicable anatomy and contraindications for various physiological conditions such as osteoporosis and degenerative disc disease. The course will provide information necessary for the student to work with clients from high-energy health clubs to rehabilitative work.
